Kinds of abstract words: conditions

We use abstract words to express the concept of condition. For example, we can say that one climate is warm and another moist, but we cannot compare, for instance, the climates of different parts of the world without the concepts of warmth and moisture.

Like the words for qualities, these abstract words are also formed from simpler words, usually (but not always) by the addition of an ending.

For example:

warm + th = warmth

moist + ure = moisture
