Holby is an ambulance driver. One day she is called to attend an emergency situation at the home of Isobel, who is suffering a severe asthma attack. On the way to Isobel's home, Holby (who is accompanied by Karl, a nurse) stops at the local newsagent's shop to buy a lottery ticket. By the time the ambulance reaches Isobel's house, her condition has worsened and she has suffered brain damage.
Holby drives Isobel quickly to the hospital. On the way, Karl gives Isobel a routine injection to which Isobel proves to be allergic. As a result Isobel suffers a permanent loss of sensation at the site of the injection. As the ambulance nears the hospital, Holby drives through a red traffic light and collides with a car. The two occupants of the car are killed outright.
