Here are some more examples of changes in the standard theory and the emergence of a new theory because new facts come to light.

Sentence A: Geological strata could be dated by fossils and the record went back millions of years. Sentence B: The circumnavigation of the globe by Magellan in the early sixteenth century showed that this could not be true.
