Economics
1. Consequently, the region now attracts many tourists, who demand cafes, hotels, shops and souvenirs. All this creates work for the local people and professional people such as craftsmen and restaurateurs are moving into the area, so halting the population decline.
2. The French Government has tackled this problem by building motorways to give access to the area. One of them runs from Clermont Ferrand to the Mediterranean coast. It is not a toll road and people are thus encouraged to stop and explore this very beautiful and historic region.
3. Nowadays people are not content with the poor living that farming can provide in such countryside and the province suffers from rural depopulation, as young people move into the towns for a better standard of living.
4. One of the largest provinces of France is the Massif Central. As its name suggests, it lies in the centre of the country. It is mountainous and has always been cut off from the rest of France.
